How to Use the ImportMaster Add-on for Google Sheets

Are you tired of manually copying and pasting data and formatting from one Google Sheet to another? ImportMaster is here to help! This Google Sheets add-on automates the process, saving you time and effort. With ImportMaster, you can import data, formatting, merged cells, and even row heights and column widths between sheets with just a few clicks. In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the process of using the ImportMaster add-on for Google Sheets.
What You'll Need
- A Google Sheets document with the ImportMaster add-on installed
- Install the Add-onClick here to install the add on
- The source (Google sheet that you want to get data and formatting from) and target (the Google sheet where you want to put the data and formatting) where you want to import data and formatting
Step 1: Open the ImportMaster Menu
- Open the Google Sheets document where you have the ImportMaster add-on installed.
- Click on "Extensions" in the top menu, and then select "ImportMaster."
Step 2: Import Data and Formatting
- In the ImportMaster menu, click "Import Data and Formatting." A sidebar will appear on the right side of your screen.
- In the sidebar, enter the source Google Sheets URL, the source sheet name, the source range (in A1:A10 notation), and the target range (in A1:A10 notation). The range dimensions need to match and will be displayed to the right and will be green if they match and red if they don't match.
- Click "Import." The data and formatting from the source range will be imported into the target range.
Step 3: Refresh Imports
If you want to refresh the imported data and formatting to reflect changes in the source Google Sheet, follow these steps:
- In the ImportMaster menu, click "Refresh Imports." The add-on will update all existing imports in the document.
Step 4: Delete All Imports
To remove all imports and clear the formatting and data from the target ranges, follow these steps:
- In the ImportMaster menu, click "Delete All Imports."
- A confirmation alert will appear. Click "OK" to proceed. All imports will be deleted, and the formatting and data in the target ranges will be cleared.
Step 5: Manage Existing Imports
If you want to modify or delete an existing import, follow these steps:
- Ensure the ImportMaster sidebar is up (by clicking it in the Extensions menu). In the ImportMaster sidebar, click the "Manage Imports" button. Your sidebar will change to show a list of all the imports.
- Click on the 'Modify' button for the import you want to edit.
- Update the source URL, source sheet name, source range, and/or target range as needed in the fields provided.
- Click "Save" to apply the modifications to the selected import.
Step 6: Delete a Specific Import
To remove a specific import and clear the formatting and data from its target range, follow these steps:
- Ensure the ImportMaster sidebar is up (by clicking it in the Extensions menu). In the ImportMaster sidebar, click the "Manage Imports" button. Your sidebar will change to show a list of all the imports.
- Click on 'Delete' button for the import you want to delete.
- Click "Delete." A confirmation alert will appear. Click "OK" to proceed. The selected import will be deleted, and the formatting and data in its target range will be cleared.
